About

Founder

The Last Light is an online literary magazine that focuses on illuminating the difficult moments in life, allowing readers the space to analyze it’s raw, unresolved, or quiet nature. Through our poetry, fiction, and nonfiction selections, The Last Light seeks to shed light on the stories that flicker through the darkness—inviting readers the opportunity to see themselves in its beautiful, complicated glow.

Hi! I’m Ashley Burgoon, and I came up with the idea for “The Last Light” in September of 2025. After beginning an MFA program at Holy Family University, I wanted to find ways to immerse myself into the literary world. I have always strived to offer others a safe space to share their deepest, darkest thoughts. Looking back, I think that is where my interest in lighthouses came from—Lighthouses are a symbol of hope. I want this magazine to be a source of hope for those struggling.

We look forward to reading your work!

Mission

We believe every writer has a story worth sharing. Inspired by the solitude and clarity of a lighthouse, we publish poetry, fiction, and nonfiction that explores human experience. We offer a safe harbor for writers and readers navigating dark or uncertain seas.

Vision

The Last Light envisions a literary space that shines through the darkness of everyday life—guiding writers and readers toward clarity, connection, and creative freedom. We seek to illuminate voices that push boundaries, offering a beacon for stories that risk, reveal, and reach for the horizon.
